Early-Career Investigators: Apply to Join the Interstellar Initiative

The New York Academy of Sciences and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development have announced a call for applications for the Interstellar Initiative. The program connects early-career investigators from around the world with peers in related disciplines to address challenges in the area of basic research to elucidate the complex mechanisms of living organisms.

Teams will be guided by a mentor, take part in two workshops over 6 months, and receive financial support to develop proposals for submission to international funding agencies. Scientists are defined as early-career if they have been an active researcher for 10 or fewer years.

Applications to the Interstellar Initiative require:

  1. Application form (including applicant demographics, scientific background, research experience, and area of interest)
  1. Proposal (guidelines below)
  1. CV (optional)

A 1,000-word proposal must be submitted that identifies a critical research question in basic research, highlights its importance and impact, and proposes a research plan for how the applicant’s expertise can address this question, including how they hope to improve this proposal through participation in the Interstellar Initiative.

Applications are due May 24. For a full timeline, visit the information page for the Interstellar Initiative website
