Open Call for European Research Council Advanced Grants

The European Research Council (ERC) has issued an open call for applications to its Advanced Grant funding scheme. Established researchers who have a record of significant research achievement over the last 10 years are eligible and encouraged to apply. The ERC expects that applicants should be leaders in the field and show originality in their research contributions. The grant provides long-term funding for groundbreaking, high risk research.

ERC is a “bottom-up” research organization, meaning there are no predetermined research criteria or priorities that direct the agency’s funding opportunities. The bottom-up structure of ERC allows for innovative behavioral science researchers to secure funding and pursue basic research questions. Grants awarded by the Advanced Grant program can reach up to € 2.5 million for a 5-year period of research. ERC also notes that researchers moving to the EU or from an associated country (see list here) are eligible for up to € 1 million in additional funding for startup costs for research or space/equipment.

The deadline for applications is May 23, 2023.

Note ERC’s message to researchers from the UK:

The UK is expected to soon become an associated country to the EU’s R&I Framework Programme Horizon Europe. The UK will therefore have the same rights and obligations as other countries associated to the Programme. Read more.
