Key U.S. Agency Accepting Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System Program Applications

In exciting news, the Health Resources and Services In exciting news, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced that Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS)-accredited psychology programs are eligible to apply for HRSA’s Graduate Psychology Education (or GPE) program. This program provides funding for these programs—up to $450,000 annually per grant—to train doctoral health psychology students, interns, and postdoctoral residents to provide behavioral health, opioid use disorder, and other substance use disorder prevention and treatment services. The program also supports faculty development of health service psychology. Applications are due December 9, 2021.

This is an important development for APS members and PCSAS-accredited programs and graduates. Not only is this a critical new funding opportunity for PCSAS programs, but this announcement is also the agency’s first formal acknowledgment of the PCSAS accreditation system. APS expects that this is an indicator of broader recognition to come from HRSA, which is the U.S.’s primary institution for improving access to healthcare services.

HRSA’s eligibility changes are a result of ongoing advocacy efforts from APS and PCSAS. APS works to advance PCSAS and its mission for the purpose of strengthening training and career opportunities for psychological clinical scientists.
